For anyone tired of long drives and endless tailbacks, the UAE is preparing a major upgrade to its road network. A new national 12-lane highway as the fourth federal route in the country is now under study. This project could completely change the daily commute for residents.

The idea behind the highway is to make travel smoother and faster between key areas, easing pressure on existing routes and cutting down the hours people spend in traffic. It’s part of the country’s ongoing plan to build safer, more efficient roads for a growing population.

Here’s what the project will bring:

  • 120 km of highway
  • 12 lanes
  • Up to 360,000 trips per day

The target completion date is set for 2030. The exact route has not yet been announced, as the feasibility study will determine which emirates and cities it will connect.

This highway plan is one of the key steps toward a more efficient and connected transport system in the UAE. It also fits into the bigger picture of smarter travel, alongside initiatives like Etihad Rail, which will link all seven emirates by train, and flying taxis, expected to take off in Dubai as early as 2026.
