Bahrain residents are now being urged to be more mindful about how and where they dispose of household waste. In response to a growing issue of improper garbage disposal — particularly in newly developed residential areas — the Northern Area Municipality has introduced new fines ranging from BHD 50 to BHD 300 for anyone found leaving trash bags outside their homes rather than using designated bins.

Across neighbourhoods in Bahrain, lidded trash containers are provided every few blocks for proper waste collection. Despite this, officials have reported a noticeable rise in trash being dumped on sidewalks and in front of houses — an act now considered a legal violation under Article 4 of the Public Hygiene Law.

The new rules clarify that placing waste bags outside your home, rather than inside the official containers, is prohibited. Garbage left in improper locations will no longer be collected, as the Northern Area Municipality officially ceases pickups from such areas.

To comply with regulations, residents must dispose of their waste between 8 PM and 10 PM and only in the designated bins. These measures are aimed at improving public hygiene, maintaining the cleanliness of residential areas, and supporting Bahrain’s environmental standards.

As enforcement of these fines begins, residents are advised to follow the outlined procedures to avoid penalties — and to help keep their communities clean and orderly.
