Anyone who drives on Sheikh Zayed Road knows how slow things can get, especially during peak hours. But relief is on the way. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced three major upgrades to help traffic move faster and smoother.

The RTA is focusing on some of the busiest entry and exit points to reduce congestion and improve travel times. Here are the changes coming to Sheikh Zayed Road in the nearest future!

1. More Space for Merging Near Umm Al Sheif and Al Manara

The merging area between Umm Al Sheif Street and Al Manara Street (towards Abu Dhabi) is being extended, and an extra lane is being added. This will increase capacity by 30%, making it easier for drivers to enter and exit smoothly.

2. Fixing Bottlenecks Near Shangri-La Hotel

If you’ve ever been stuck near the Shangri-La Hotel, you know how frustrating it can be. The RTA is extending the merging distance between the service road and the exit to Al Safa Street and Dubai Mall. This should reduce slowdowns and make the flow of traffic smoother.

3. Reducing Traffic Jams Near Al Marabi and Al Manara

Another key merging point between Al Marabi Street and Al Manara Street (also towards Abu Dhabi) is being improved. The goal is to shorten wait times and prevent long queues, especially during rush hours.

With these upgrades, Sheikh Zayed Road should see fewer slowdowns, shorter wait times, and an overall smoother ride. If you take this route regularly, expect an easier commute in the near future. Keep an eye out for these changes as they roll out — you might just notice a big difference on your next drive.
