Major changes are underway in Bahrain as the Urban Planning and Development Authority completes 96 urban development projects. The Kingdom is merging the tradition with modernity and the Buri Masterplan stands out as one of the biggest developments.

Buri, a village known for its historical treasures like mosques, cemeteries, and the Burial Mounds, is set for a major transformation. The Masterplan will turn it into a modern urban hub with a state-of-the-art transport network, including the highly anticipated King Hamad Metro Station.

Here’s what’s coming to Buri:

  • A modern city layout near the proposed metro station and a relocated central market
  • Preservation of natural springs, green areas, and historic sites including Ain Huwais Mosque, Al-Juwailiya Mosque, and the eastern part of Buri Cemetery
  • The Buri Path, a scenic route similar to the Pearling Path, featuring archaeological sites, springs, and parks open for visitors
  • Half the land dedicated to farmland to maintain Buri’s agricultural identity
  • Housing projects prioritising current residents to protect the social fabric

The road network will link Buri to Salmabad, Sheikh Zayed City, and A’ali, while the Bahrain Metro project is set to be the Kingdom’s first light rail system, covering 109 km in two phases.

Phase one of Bahrain Metro: 20 stations over 29 km. The network will be connected to Connected to King Hamad International Railway Station and feature two lines:

  • Line one (red): Bahrain International Airport (Muharraq) to Seef District
  • Line two (blue): Juffair to the educational area in Isa Town

Phase two of Bahrain Metro: King Hamad International Railway Station in Ramli to Exhibition World Bahrain in Sakhir, spanning 18 km with five stops.

The Buri Masterplan blends the past and the future, creating a city that honours history while embracing modern living. Bahrain’s rich landscapes, historic sites, and modern projects make it a fascinating place to explore. Checking out best tourist places to visit in Bahrain.
