Abu Dhabi is once again welcoming film lovers from all walks of life with the return of the European Film Festival, running from 23 to 29 June at the Cultural Foundation. Now in its second edition, the event is organised by the European Union Delegation to the UAE in collaboration with the Cultural Foundation, bringing a fresh celebration of cinema to the capital.

This year’s festival focuses on themes of identity, resilience, and social change, exploring how stories from different corners of Europe reflect shared human experiences.

The programme features 17 films from across Europe, including entries from France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Poland. The line-up spans genres, from historical dramas and coming-of-age stories to satirical comedies and animations.

A few titles to watch out for:

  • Dangerous Gentlemen (crime/comedy from Poland) on Tuesday, June 24
  • Bigman (youth drama from Netherlands) on Wednesday, June 25
  • UFO (sci-fi from Sweden) on Saturday, June 28
  • Four Souls of Coyote (animation from Hungary) on Saturday, June 28
  • Ramona (romantic comedy  from Spain) on Sunday, June 29

In a special moment for the UAE, the festival will also feature an Emirati production for the first time. Mountain Boy, directed by Zainab Shaheen and supported by a 32-member Emirati cast and crew, will be screened on June 24.
