Starting April 14, 2024, the GGICO Metro Station on Dubai’s Red Line will officially be renamed Al Garhoud Metro Station, as announced the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

This station is located between Deira City Centre and Airport Terminal 1, on one of the busiest and most widely used metro lines in the city. The Red Line connects key destinations like Dubai International Airport, Burj Khalifa, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Marina, and Expo City Dubai. The trains on this line are driverless and fully automated.

Although many commuters already call it Garhoud Station, the official name until now has been GGICO — a reference to the Gulf General Investment Company, a Dubai-based firm founded in 1973. The station has been in operation since May 15, 2010. Just past this stop, the metro line goes underground.

This isn’t the first recent name change on the metro network. In March, Al Khail Metro Station was renamed after the RTA signed a naming agreement with the financial services company.

So, if you’re traveling in Dubai, keep an eye out for the new name Al Garhoud Metro Station when riding the Red Line.
