Dubai’s Salik system automatically charges drivers as they pass through toll gates. But did you know there are ways to pass through for free? With the new Salik toll gate fees now in place, this information could help you save money while driving in Dubai.
Here’s what you need to know!
When Can You Drive Through Salik Gates for Free?
There are 10 Salik toll gates across the city. Between 1 AM and 6 AM, passing through any Salik gate is completely free.
At other times, the charges are:
- AED 6 during peak hours (6 AM – 10 AM)
- AED 4 during off-peak hours (10 AM – 4 PM, 8 PM – 1 AM) and all day on Sunday
Get One Free Pass Within an Hour
If you pass through certain gates within one hour, you only pay once.
- Al Mamzar South & Al Mamzar North: pay once if you pass through both in the same direction within an hour.
- Al Safa North & Al Safa South: same rule applies.
How to Set Up a Salik Tag
To drive through Salik gates, you need a Salik tag attached to your windshield. You can buy and activate your tag online or at petrol stations.
- Cost: AED 100 (AED 50 for the tag + AED 50 prepaid toll balance)
- Where to buy: www.salik.gov.ae or the Smart Salik App (Apple & Google Play Store)
Once set up, your toll payments will be automatically deducted whenever you pass through a gate. And by knowing the right times and routes, you can drive smarter in Dubai! Also, check Salik fees for Ramadan 2025 to save even more on toll fees during the holy month.
