There’s good news for everyone flying in or out of Riyadh. Terminal 2 at King Khalid International Airport (RUH) has officially opened after a major redevelopment, bringing the long-running upgrade of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 to a close.

The expanded terminal offers more space for faster check-in, security control, and boarding areas, which helps reduce crowding during busy travel periods. With the additional capacity, the airport can also handle more flights at the same time.

The reopening comes alongside other recent changes at the airport. Hafawa Lounge is planned to be built between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, offering travelers a new premium space to sit, work, or rest before their flight.

With the redevelopment now fully complete:

  • Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 can handle up to 14 million passengers annually (+130%)
  • Riyadh Airport now contributes around 2.2% to the city’s GDP
  • The hub supports nearly 66,000 direct and indirect jobs

At the opening ceremony, Prince Faisal bin Bandar spoke about Riyadh’s growing role as a destination for major international events. As you may know, the city will host the Esports World Cup 2026, Expo 2030 Riyadh, and the FIFA World Cup 2034, all of which are expected to increase the number of tourists coming to KSA.

Stay tuned for more news and developments in the city.
