Bahrain is making its roads safer with a new traffic law that brings tougher penalties for reckless driving. This law, supported by His Majesty the King, aims to reduce accidents and improve safety on the Kingdom’s roads by encouraging responsible behavior from both drivers and pedestrians.
The updated law includes stricter penalties for violations such as speeding, running red lights, and driving under the influence. Here are the full details.
If running a red light:
- Imprisonment up to 6 months
- Fine between BD200 and BD1,000

If exceeding the speed limit, driver will be fined between BD50 and BD100
If exceeding the speed limit and causing an accident:
- Imprisonment between 3 months and 1 year
- Fine between BD1,000 and BD3,000
If driving under the influence:
- Imprisonment between 2 months and 1 year
- Fine between BD1,000 and BD2,000

If driving under the influence and causing death:
- Imprisonment between 2 and 7 years
- Fine between BD3,000 and BD10,000
Serious traffic violations in Bahrain:
- Driving licence suspension for up to 1 year for severe violations
- Confiscation of vehicles involved in accidents resulting in injuries or fatalities
If running a red light, exceeding speed limits, or driving against traffic:
- Imprisonment between 2 to 5 years
- Fine between BD2,000 and BD6,000

Imprisonment can extend up to 10 years if multiple traffic violations are involved.
