Born in Toronto, Canada, but with his roots firmly set in India, Shobhit Banwait has quickly established himself as one of the most revolutionary and popular tabla players in the world through his ability to mix the sounds of the traditional Indian drum with modern Bollywood, Hip-hop and dance music hits.
Banwait first took up the tabla at a very young age. Influenced by his father’s passion for singing, he also picked up the musical gene and from the age of 13 hasn’t looked anywhere else. Banwait studied the instrument and began playing at shows across North America.
He found his fan base through YouTube and social media when he bagen to play the table to the tune of popular hits such as Sia’s Cheap Thrills, Calvin Harris’ How Deep Is Your Love and Major Lazer’s Lean On, racking up over a million views on the video platform alone.
Banwait’s videos quickly went viral across the Indian community and even became a hit with the original records producers. Since then the drummer has seen his career skyrocket, receiving performance bookings across the globe. His talent was also formally recognised in 2016 when he won the Anokhi Award for Most Promising Musical Fusionist.
