Sonu Nigam is a well-acclaimed Indian playback singer originally from a small town in the north Indian state of Haryana. His songs have been featured primarily in Hindi and Kannada movies.
Influenced greatly by musical legend Mohammad Rafi, Nigam started his career by singing covers of his songs. His big break came in 1995 when he sang ‘Accha Sila Diya’ in Gulshan Grover’s movie ‘Aaja Meri Jaan’. That same year, he began hosting the hit TV show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma’ which brought him much visibility and success. Nigam rose to fame with the release of his two hit songs ‘Sandese Aate Hain’ from the movie Border and ‘Yeh Dil Deewana’ from Pardes, both in 1997.
Since then Nigam has become a highly respected artist in India and has recorded numerous songs and albums, appeared on several TV shows, including X-Factor India and Indian Idol, and performed around the world to sold out shows. He has won multiple prestigious awards including Film Fare, Zee Cine Awards and National Film Awards. He won the maximum number of awards for the title track in the 2003 hit film ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’.
Sonu Nigam is one of India’s highest paid singers, with a net worth of $8 million.
