Sweet Female Attitude

Sweet Female Attitude

UK garage music duo Sweet Female Attitude might be considered a ‘one-hit wonder’ by many, but their successes and legacy has stretched far beyond that of their most notable hit, Flowers.

Formed in 1996 in Manchester, UK, Leanne Brown, Shine MC and Sarah Bridgewood signed a record deal that saw the group travel to Denmark to record That’s The Way It Is and the original version of Flowers. Shine MC left in 1999 and Leanne and Sarah became SweetFemale Attitude. It was then that Catherine Cassidy replaced Sarah and the duo recorded the initial parts of their album, In Person, in 2000.

Following the Sunship mix of the early track Flowers, the track gained widespread popularity and became a UK garage hit. The track sold over 200,000 copies and hit No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart. The success of the single saw Sweet Female Attitude become the subject of a UK and European Tour and included a performance on Top of the Pops alongside receiving a Brit Award nomination.

Sweet Female Attitude went on to record more tracks for their album which was finally released on November 2001. Whilst their other tracks have received remixes and further EPs, the success of Flowers has put Sweet Female Attitude into the garage hall of fame.

The track has been featured on several Pure Garage compilation albums and a remix of the track made it to video game Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 and has firmly been recognised as an old school garage anthem.
