The Middle East might be a huge market for international DJs, but there have been few homegrown talents that have broken out of their region into the global consciousness. But the deadly duo behind Hollaphonic – motormouth MC Olly Wood and long-time Dubai resident DJ/producer Greg Stainer – have become household names not only around the GCC but further afield thanks to their infectious blend of heady house and energetic EDM, selling out tickets for 15,000 capacity venues and supporting icons of the scene like Major Lazer, David Guetta, Calvin Harris and Disclosure. One of the first local acts signed to a major deal thanks to their Universal Music deal, they released their debut album Personal Space in 2015 with plenty more to come in the future.
They’ve recently supported Armin Van Buuren at the Abu Dhabi Formula 1, and played a sold out gig in front of 40,000 at Meydan Racecourse following the culmination of the Dubai World Cup. With heavy rotation on MTV Dance, their own artist page on BBC Radio 1 and with tracks signed to labels like Toolroom, Armada and Hed Kandi, Hollaphonic are taking Dubai to the masses, with impressive results.
Just remember where you saw them first, next time you see them headlining in Europe or touring America!
