Dubai’s public transport network is getting a major boost with the upgrade of 22 bus stations across the city, including 16 passenger stations and 6 major depots. The enhancements come as part of the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) effort to improve the quality and efficiency of bus services in the emirate.

Improvements were carried out at nine bus stations in Deira and seven in Bur Dubai. These stations support around 110 bus routes and handle a peak-hour capacity of approximately 710 buses.

Renovations included:

  • Upgraded passenger waiting areas
  • Rebuilt pavements and enhanced building facades
  • Designated prayer areas at select stations

Six key bus depots were also upgraded in Al Khawaneej, Al Qusais, Al Ruwayah, Al Awir, Jebel Ali, and Al Quoz.

The RTA has also signed an agreement to add 637 new public buses to the fleet in 2025 and 2026, including:

  • 451 city buses tailored for high-density and developing areas
  • 146 buses that meet Euro 6 low-emission standards — a first for the Middle East and North Africa
  • 40 fully electric buses from Zhongtong, each 12 metres long and able to carry 72 passengers

The new vehicles aim to expand geographic coverage across Dubai, support sustainability goals, and improve occupancy levels in public transport.
