If you were planning to send your child back to school on the bus next week, you’ll need a backup plan. While in-person classes in the UAE resume from Monday, April 20, school transport won’t be running, at least for now.

The Ministry of Education confirmed that bus services are postponed for all public and private nurseries, kindergartens, and schools during the first phase of the return. Parents will need to handle drop-offs and pick-ups themselves.

The situation will be reviewed weekly to determine when services can return.

Authorities need time to work with transport operators and municipalities to make sure school transport meets safety requirements for children.

Any updates and the date on the return of school buses will be shared through official channels. For now, classrooms are reopening, just without the usual school run covered.

There’s also another school update parents should know about. The UAE has recently issued a ban on sugary drinks and snacks in all schools. Under the National Guide for Food and Beverages in the School Environment, schools must offer food suited to students’ age and nutritional needs.
