If you were planning to send your child back to school on the bus next week, you can go ahead as usual. In-person classes in the UAE resumed on Monday, April 20, and school transport is also running.

School bus operations across the UAE will resume for both public and private schools. The decision follows ongoing assessments by the National Emergency and Crisis Management Authority, in coordination with the Ministry of Education and local education authorities.

Earlier, on April 16, authorities had said that school buses would be postponed. That decision has now been reversed.

Authorities remain on high alert and ready to respond if needed, but for now, school transport is operating as normal. Any updates will be shared through official channels. For now, classrooms are reopening with the usual school run back in place.

Here are a couple of alternatives to school buses to keep in mind

  • Careem SchoolRides
Packages start from AED 260 for 20 rides. Trips are live-tracked and assigned to vetted drivers. You can add up to three children in one car. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Uber Teens
Available in Dubai since 2024 for children aged eight and above. The service includes PIN verification, live tracking, trip monitoring, and other built-in safety features for parents.

There’s also another school update parents should know about. The UAE has recently issued a ban on sugary drinks and snacks in all schools. Under the National Guide for Food and Beverages in the School Environment, schools must offer food suited to students’ age and nutritional needs.
