Paying for apps usually comes down to two choices. Pay for a full year upfront and save, or pay monthly and spend more over time. Apple makes that choice easier with a new option that splits a yearly plan into monthly payments, with the same annual price.
Annual subscriptions usually come with better pricing, but paying for a full year in one go isn’t always easy, especially for expensive apps. Monthly plans solve that problem, but they cost more.
Here’s how the new option from Apple works:
- You sign up for a yearly subscription
- The total is divided into 12 payments, and you pay each month

Apple will show completed and remaining payments and send reminders before the next billing cycle.
The feature release is expected with iOS 26.5 next month. The rollout will be global, so users everywhere will get access at the same time.
If you’re on your phone most of the time (and who isn’t these days), here’s what else is happening in the world of tech: WhatsApp is testing a Plus subscription, and Meta plans to remove end-to-end encrypted messaging on Instagram starting May 8.
