Starting November 1, Sharjah will introduce new traffic regulations to help improve road safety and optimize traffic flow. The General Command of Sharjah Police announced that this initiative will involve creating dedicated lanes for motorcycles, delivery bikes, heavy vehicles, and buses on both major and secondary roads.
Here’s what you need to know about the new lane allocation.
The far-right lane will be reserved exclusively for heavy vehicles and buses.
As for motorcycles, the drives must adjust depending on the type of road:
- the third and fourth lanes from the right on 4-lane roads
- the middle or right lane on 3-lane roads
- the right lane on 2-lane roads

To ensure the regulations are followed, Sharjah Police will be running 24/7 surveillance using radars and smart cameras across various streets.
The penalties for non-compliance:
- A fine of AED 1,500 and 12 traffic points will be applied to heavy vehicles that don’t follow the designated route
- A fine of AED 500 will be imposed for drivers who fail to follow the traffic signs or lane instructions

By separating the traffic flows of motorcycles, heavy vehicles, and buses, the emirate aims to reduce congestion and prevent accidents.
