The United Arab Emirates has announced a significant update to the Emirates ID renewal process, aimed at making the procedure faster and more efficient for UAE citizens. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) introduced the change on Tuesday, September 9, as part of ongoing efforts to streamline government services and reduce bureaucracy.

This update brings two new services that eliminate the need for citizens to provide unnecessary information during the renewal process. Now, UAE citizens can renew their Emirates IDs with just one simple step: submitting an application and paying the required fees.

The validity period of the renewed Emirates ID will now be automatically determined based on the applicant’s age:

  • 5-year Emirates ID for those aged under 21
  • 10-year Emirates ID for those aged 21 and above

It’s important to note that these updates apply only to UAE citizens renewing their Emirates ID. While all residents of the UAE require an Emirates ID for living and working, this streamlined renewal process is currently available only to citizens.

The UAE passport remains one of the most powerful in the world, ranking in the top 10, with visa-free access to 184 countries.

Additionally, while it is possible for foreigners to acquire UAE nationality, it is limited to specific categories, such as investors, doctors, specialists, inventors, scientists, intellectuals, and individuals with notable creative talents. Dependent wives and newborn children of UAE nationals are also eligible for UAE citizenship.

For those holding a UAE passport, the process of renewal and handling lost passports has also been changed. To stay up to date, be sure to check out the latest updates for renewal and procedures for lost documents.
