A big change is coming to your shopping experience in Oman this July. More stores across Oman will stop giving out plastic shopping bags as the next phase of the nationwide ban comes into effect.

The following businesses will no longer provide plastic shopping bags:

  • Furniture stores
  • Dagger shops
  • Gold and silver outlets
  • Car care centres
  • Vehicle dealerships

Instead of plastic shopping bags, businesses can provide alternatives such as paper, cloth, cardboard, cotton, and non-woven fabric bags.

The goal is to reduce plastic waste, encourage people to use reusable bags, and help protect the environment. In 2025, the same ban affected fruit and vegetable shops, grocery stores, bakeries, sweet shops, gift shops, and packaging units.
