Trying to choose between two products at the grocery shelf? In Abu Dhabi, one scan can now make the decision a lot easier. Using the TAMM app, you can scan Nutri-Mark labels and instantly see details about the food you are buying.
The result will show the product’s nutrition grade, key nutritional information, consumption guidance, and alerts for sensitive groups, including children and people with diabetes.
Abu Dhabi has also been paying closer attention to what people see and choose when it comes to food. Earlier this year, the emirate banned ads for unhealthy food and drinks in outdoor spaces. You can read more about that update here.
If you have not noticed the label yet, Nutri-Mark appears on products you use and consume every day. So what does it actually mean? It grades products from A (highest nutritional value) to E (lowest nutritional value), using factors such as fat, salt, fiber, ingredients, and overall nutrition.
With the TAMM scan, you can see the grade along with more details about the product before buying.
The QR code feature is currently available at four major retail chains in Abu Dhabi.
And if you have kids, there is another food-related update all parents should know about: sugary drinks and junk snacks are no longer allowed in UAE schools.
