There’s an important UAE highway update you’ll want to be aware of if you’re planning to drive between Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah. Starting September 1, part of the E11 highway in Ras Al Khaimah will be closed for the first phase of a major roadworks project. A temporary 2-km road will be built to keep traffic moving safely during the construction period.

You can check the affected area (marked red) and the alternative route (light green) on the official map provided by RAK’s Department of Public Services below.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what you can expect during the two-stage construction:

  • Stage One: The project will involve a widening of the road from two lanes to four lanes in each direction, along with a dedicated service road for local traffic
  • Stage Two: Road widening will continue, and new bridges and tunnels will be added at major junctions like Dolphin Junction (S4), E11 to E311 Junction (D1), Red Tunnel (S3), and Mina Al Arab Tunnel (F1/F2). Extra lanes will be added to help reduce congestion

As more people are drawn to the area, these upgrades will ensure that the infrastructure supports the growing number of commuters. As Ras Al Khaimah continues to grow, it’s also becoming a hub for exciting developments, including the Wynn Al Marjan Island resort and Armani Beach Residences, further adding to the city’s charm as both a residential and tourist destination.
