One would not be surprised at the son of legendary playback singer, S.P. Balasubramanium to have fallen into his footsteps and taken his career in the direction of music. However, S.P. Charan proved to be not only a successful singer, but an equally successful producer too. With movies such as “Mazhai”, “Aaranya Kaandam”, “Thirudan Police”, “Chennai 600028” and its sequel “Chennai 600028 II” under his production banner, it is no wonder Charan has become much sought-after.

With regards to his playback singing, needless to say he has always been in awe of his father. It is also noted that Charan’s vocals are very similar to that of S.P. Balasubramanium, yet he expects composers to always go for ‘the original’ (his father) and that he has no qualms about it. However, while he may be considered a shadow by some, there are music composers who know Charan’s talent wherein he has managed to carve his own niche. From ‘Alaipayuthey’ to ‘Boys’ to ‘Jillunu Oru Kadhal’ to ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’, there have been several box-office hits to his credit.

In addition to these, Charan has also acted in a few Kannada, Telugu and Tamil movies and TV series.
