The UAE National Orchestra is a groundbreaking 100-member ensemble founded in 2025 and based in Abu Dhabi, created to celebrate the United Arab Emirates' rich cultural heritage through music. Widely known by the acronym UAENO, the orchestra unites world-class talent under a shared mission to honor Emirati musical traditions while embracing modern multiculturalism.
The vision behind the UAE National Symphony Orchestra is rooted in cross-cultural dialogue, blending Arabic and Western musical traditions at the highest standards. Under the leadership of Chairperson Her Excellency Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, the project promotes the values of tolerance, peace, and coexistence. The National Orchestra Abu Dhabi is also home to dedicated training programs, international partnerships, and mentorship opportunities for emerging musicians across the region. Algerian UNESCO Artist for Peace Amine Kouider serves as music director and conductor, German violinist Nicolas Koeckert leads as concertmaster, and Sheikha Alia bint Khalid Al Qasimi serves as managing director.
When it comes to members, the ensemble was selected through a rigorous global audition process that drew over 3,200 applicants from 99 countries, ultimately narrowing down to 100 musicians. The lineup includes 70 full-time instrumentalists and 30 part-time choir members, with Emiratis making up around 15% of the ensemble. After a historic debut during Eid Al Etihad 54 at the opening of Zayed National Museum, the orchestra began its inaugural season in January 2026, marking the start of a national tour across all seven emirates.
