Biography & Career:
Kavinsky (born Vincent Belorgey; 31 July 1975 – 28 July 2026) was a French DJ, producer and composer best known for “Nightcall”, the track that set the tone of Nicolas Winding Refn’s film Drive. He passed away at his home in Paris at the age of 50, just days before his 51st birthday.
A self-taught pianist, Vincent Belorgey adopted the stage name Kavinsky in 2005 and rose with the second wave of the French touch movement, opening for Daft Punk early in his career. His sound blended French house, synthwave and electropop with a cinematic, retro visual identity that made him one of the most recognisable figures in French electronic music.
“Nightcall”, released in 2010, became a global hit after its inclusion in Drive (2011), introducing Kavinsky to a worldwide audience. His debut studio album OutRun followed in 2013, and his collaborators included Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and The Weeknd. After several years away, he returned with his second album, Reborn, in 2022.
In August 2024, Kavinsky performed “Nightcall” alongside Angèle and Phoenix at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games at the Stade de France, a moment that brought the song a new wave of popularity.
