Biography & Career:
Aries Spears is an American comedian, impressionist and actor known for a fearless, fast-talking style and uncanny celebrity impressions. Raised by a jazz singer mother, the future star grew up in New York and New Jersey and began performing stand up comedy at just 14 in Harlem clubs, impersonating James Brown and Jack Nicholson on the very first night. Early television spots on Def Comedy Jam and Showtime at the Apollo opened doors, and a move to Los Angeles in the early 1990s led to regular sets at The Comedy Store, The Improv and The Laugh Factory, along with small film roles.
The big break came in 1997 with Mad TV, where eight seasons and 198 episodes made Spears the second longest-serving cast member in the history of the show. Impressions of Mike Tyson, Jay-Z, Eddie Murphy and many other stars became fan favourites, and original characters showed a sharp writing talent too. The comedy specials that followed brought that aggressive, no-holds-barred energy to a wider audience, while voice roles in animated series revealed yet another side of the performer. Decades into the career, age has not softened the edge one bit.
Today the comedian keeps a busy tour schedule, bringing new material and classic impressions to clubs and theatres across the United States. Each tour tends to sell well, so fans looking for Aries Spears tickets are usually advised to book early, especially for weekend shows.
Away from the stage, personal life has been more complicated. A marriage to Elisa Larregui, which began in December 2010, later ended in divorce, and the former wife stayed largely out of the public eye. The performer is a father of three children, including son Jordan, and prefers to keep family matters private.
