Biography & Career:
Kanan Gill is an Indian stand-up comedian, actor, author, and YouTuber who has become one of the most beloved voices in Indian comedy. Born into a Sikh family in Bareilly, he grew up in Dehradun, Delhi, and later Bangalore. Father Charanjit Singh Gill — an Indian Army officer and principal of Rashtriya Military School — and mother shaped a disciplined household rooted in the values of religion and hard work. Details about siblings and wife remain private, as the comedian keeps personal life largely out of the spotlight.
Before pursuing comedy, the future star worked as a software engineer at Exeter Group Inc. for three years. The turning point came after winning the Punch Line Bangalore Competition, followed by another win at the Comedy Store in Mumbai — after which the IT career was left behind for good.
The viral YouTube series Pretentious Movie Reviews, co-created with Biswa Kalyan Rath, catapulted him to national fame. Sharp, observational stand up comedy — with Kanan Gill Punjabi roots lending authentic warmth — translated into sold-out shows across India and abroad. Movies and tv shows credits include Noor (2017), the Norwegian romantic comedy Christmas As Usual (2023), and Aachar & Co. He also served as a judge on Comicstaan (2018) and co-hosts the fan-favorite podcast — The Official NNN Podcast. In 2024, HarperCollins published debut novel Acts of God.
