Biography & Career:
Swedish House Mafia is the trio that turned Stockholm into the centre of dance music for the best part of a decade. The members of Swedish House Mafia are Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso - three DJs who were already established solo artists and label owners in the Swedish scene before deciding, around 2008, that a group made more sense than three separate careers. Their real names are Axel Hedfors, Steve Josefsson Fragogiannis and Sebastian Ingrosso, and the nationality attached to all three is Swedish, although Angello was born in Greece and Ingrosso comes from an Italian family. Angello and Ingrosso have known each other since primary school, which explains a lot about how the project works.

The genre here is big-room progressive house, built on huge melodic breakdowns, festival-scale drops and guest vocals rather than an internal lead singer - John Martin, Alicia Keys, Usher, Sting, Connie Constance and Niki & The Dove have all taken that role over the years. Two mixed albums arrived in 2010 and 2012, followed a decade later by a proper studio debut that pushed into darker, moodier territory. Anyone hunting the most popular Swedish House Mafia songs ends up in the same place: the 2012 single with John Martin that became the biggest hit of the catalogue, a Grammy nomination and a stadium singalong that still closes sets today. The story has a break in the middle. The group split in 2013 after a farewell run documented on film, spent five years apart - each one keeping a solo DJ career running in the meantime - then returned in 2018 to a Miami stage that nobody expected.. The original members never changed - same three, same setup - and since the reunion have released a studio album, a run of singles, and in 2025 launched Superhuman as a new label and creative base.
