Biography & Career:
Omah Lay is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer from Port Harcourt, and one of the defining voices of the generation that took Afrobeats global. The stage name is a shortened version of a much longer birth name, and music runs in the family: the grandfather played drums for the Highlife great Celestine Ukwu, and the father drummed too. Any biography of the artist starts with a teenage rapper who called himself Lil King, got bored of rap, taught himself production in a few months and only later discovered the voice that would make him famous.

The breakthrough came in May 2020 with a five-track EP that pulled in more than 120 million streams and won Best New Artist at The Headies. A second EP followed the same year, and in July 2022 the debut album arrived on Sire and KeyQaad, a deeply personal record about fame, loneliness and depression that earned Headies awards for both Best Male Artist and Album of the Year. A deluxe edition landed in 2023, the same year the Nigerian singer passed a billion Spotify streams.
