Biography & Career:
Steve Angello is one of the three producers behind Swedish House Mafia and, on his own, one of the more restless figures in dance music. The full name on the paperwork is Steve Patrik Angello Josefsson Fragogiannis, which hints at the mix behind him: a Greek father, a Swedish mother, a Romani grandfather on the maternal side, and a childhood spent in the Stockholm suburb of Solna. That ethnicity and background come up often in interviews, usually alongside stories about a family that was anything but wealthy. Nationality-wise he is Swedish, and Greek-Swedish is how most profiles describe him.

Scratch DJing came first, at 12, in hip-hop and breakbeat competitions. Electronic music arrived in his late teens, and by 2003 the Size Records label was up and running from Stockholm. The early discography ran through aliases - Who's Who, Buy Now, Supermode with Axwell - before a 2008 rework of a 90s house classic with Laidback Luke turned into a career-defining record, still played in sets almost two decades later. The two solo albums that followed, in 2016 and 2018, went somewhere unexpected: autobiographical, orchestral in places, closer to a rock record than a festival tool. His younger brother Antoine, who records as AN21, has toured and produced with him throughout, and the pair also released a joint album with Max Vangeli.

The EDM genre label has always sat awkwardly on DJ Steve Angello. Progressive and electro house are the foundation, but the catalogue also runs into tech house, cinematic instrumentals and singer-led material with Gary Go, Julia Spada, Dougy from The Temper Trap and The Presets. Anyone compiling the best songs ends up mixing arena anthems with slower, stranger album tracks. Despite an age now in the forties, the schedule has not slowed: Swedish House Mafia reunited in 2018, released a studio album in 2022, and launched Superhuman as a new label in 2025.

Away from music, life is quieter than the discography suggests. He married Swedish model and TV personality Isabel Adrian in 2013, and the couple have two daughters; the wife and kids live between Stockholm and Los Angeles. On the road, a solo tour continues to run alongside the trio's calendar, with events ranging from intimate club nights to stadiums and major festivals, and tickets for the bigger dates tend to disappear early.
