Often credited with creating the Mediterranean Music genre – a clever, border-crossing blend of Eastern and Western rhythms – he’s one of the most eminent Arabic pop stars in the world. Born in 1961 in Port Said in Egypt, he started his music career in the early 80s, releasing 7 hit albums during the decade including 1986’s Welcome Welcome.
His 1996 collaboration with Nour El Ain was an international success and gained him widespread recognition outside the Arabic speaking world. Amr Diab broke further into the pop consciousness when he was awarded the Best Selling Middle East artist gong at the World Music Awards in 1996, 2001, 2007 and 2013, while he’s received 7 World Music Award nominations in total, making him the most recognized Middle East artist.
A huge draw across the Middle East, he’s sold thousands of tickets at previous Dubai gigs, while in 2013 he embarked upon his Golden Tour celebrating 30 years in the music business, with the tour taking in sold out gigs in Australia, Doha, Egypt, Dubai, Greece and Romania.
