Biography & Career:
Shaan is an Indian playback singer, composer, actor and television host, often called the Golden Voice of India. The full name of the artist is Shantanu Mukherjee, and any biography of the singer begins with a remarkably musical family. The grandfather, Jahar Mukherjee, was a well-known lyricist, and elder sister Sagarika is also a singer. For fans looking up the father name, it is Manas Mukherjee, a respected music director who passed away when the future star was only 13. Music became a profession early on, starting with advertising jingles, remixes and cover versions, and around a 17th birthday came the first film recording, a single line in Parinda.
The breakthrough came in the mid-1990s with pop records made together with Sagarika, followed by a solo career that earned an MTV Asia Award in 2002. Bollywood soon took notice, and the singer went on to voice songs for Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and many other stars. Recording in Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu and more, Shaan built a reputation for warm romantic songs and collected two Filmfare Awards and three IIFA Awards. Television made the face as familiar as the voice, with years spent hosting and judging popular singing shows. More than three decades into the career, age has only added depth and control to that famous tone.
Away from the stage, family remains at the centre of everything. Shaan married his wife Radhika Mukherjee in 2000, and the couple has two sons, Soham and Shubh. One son, Shubh, performs as Maahi and made a Bollywood playback debut in 2025, while Soham is also building a career in music. On the subject of religion, the singer follows Hinduism and comes from a Bengali background.
