Biography & Career:
The Jacksons are one of the most celebrated family acts in pop history: a group of brothers from Gary, Indiana, who first found fame in the 1960s as the Jackson 5. Fans still call them the 5 Jacksons, after the original line-up that signed with Motown and scored a run of number one hits. In 1976 the band moved to Epic Records and, because Motown kept the old name, started recording as The Jacksons.
Over the years the members were Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, Michael and Randy Jackson, the names most fans know by heart. The line-up shifted along the way: Jermaine stayed at Motown in 1976 and Randy stepped in, before Jermaine came back for the record-breaking 1984 reunion tour.
The discography of the Epic years covers six studio albums released between 1976 and 1989, plus a live record. Writing and producing their own material for the first time, the brothers blended soul, funk, disco and pop into songs that filled dance floors around the world and earned the band its first platinum certification.
After the final studio album in 1989, the group went quiet as solo careers took over. Tito passed away in 2024, and Jermaine stepped away from the stage in 2020. Jackie and Marlon keep the legacy alive in concert, with a UK tour set for November 2026 and a set list packed with classics from both eras.
