Biography & Career:
Krishnakumar Kunnath (23 August 1968 – 31 May 2022), known as KK, was one of India's most beloved playback singers, celebrated for his soulful voice across hundreds of Bollywood films. He passed away in Kolkata at the age of 53 shortly after performing at a live concert, leaving behind a deeply cherished musical legacy.
Krishnakumar Kunnath, better known as KK, was one of India's most popular singers, having lent his voice to around 500 Bollywood films as well as many South Indian movies.
KK's beginnings were quite busy, as he had sung over 3,500 jingles before landing his first Bollywood gig in 1996. A few years later, he released his first album, “Pal”, an Indie-pop collaboration with renowned producer Leslie Lewis. KK only returned to the studio much later and cut his second album after nine years. Having kept his fans hungry for that long, the rock-flavoured “Humsafar” was very well received. Needless to say, KK remained in high demand for film soundtracks and live performances around the world.
KK was one of the handful of fresh-sounding playback singers in Bollywood and as the Indian music scene adapted to the demands of the youth in the late 1990s and early 2000s, KK's vocals expectedly became a central part of it, cementing his legacy in Bollywood music.
