Bahrain has officially declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, as a public holiday in observance of Labour Day. The announcement came through a circular issued by Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, confirming that all ministries and public institutions will remain closed for the day.
Labour Day, also known as International Workers’ Day or May Day, is recognised globally in over 80 countries. Held annually on May 1, the day pays tribute to the contributions and rights of workers, highlighting the importance of fair labour practices and social protections in the workforce.

The holiday provides a well-earned break for many and underscores the country’s commitment to acknowledging the role of labour in national development. While private sector operations weren’t specifically mentioned in the circular, such announcements are typically followed by individual guidelines from companies or the Ministry of Labour.
This move aligns Bahrain with many other countries in the region and worldwide that use May 1 as an opportunity to recognise and reflect on the efforts of workers across all industries.
