The United Arab Emirates has secured the 15th spot globally and the top position regionally in the 2025 Human Development Index (HDI), released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) — a notable rise of 11 places from its previous ranking in 2021–22.
This result places the UAE ahead of several major economies, including Canada, the United States, Australia, Japan, and South Korea. It is also the only Arab country featured in the top 20, underlining the country’s ongoing focus on human development as a national priority.

UAE’s Stats from the 2025 UN Human Development Index Report:

- Expected years of schooling: 15.6
- Average years of schooling: 13 (supporting SDG 4: Quality Education)
- Gross national income per capita: USD 71,142 (aligned with SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth)
The 2025 Human Development Report, titled “A Matter of Choice: People and Possibilities in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” highlights how countries are responding to opportunities and challenges presented by emerging technologies. The UAE’s ranking reflects its balance between innovation and human wellbeing — particularly in healthcare, education, and economic sustainability.

According to Abdulrahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, the UAE’s strong performance is the result of continuous investment in a world-class healthcare system built around innovation and quality.
With a focus on long-term sustainability and human capital, the UAE continues to position itself not just as an economic leader, but as a model for development in the modern era.
