A new public art project has launched in Fujairah, turning an ordinary road into a musical experience. The 750-metre stretch of road plays part of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony when driven over at the right speed.

The initiative, named “Musical Street,” is the first of its kind in the UAE and the Arab region and located on Sheikh Khalifa Street, just before the Fujairah Court. It was developed by the Fujairah Fine Arts Academy as part of a wider plan to bring art into public spaces and daily routines.

The melody is produced by the vibrations of car tyres as they pass over specially grooved road markings. Drivers and passengers hear a section of Beethoven’s work without needing any external devices — just by driving over the road.

Ali Obaid Al Hafiti, Director General of Fujairah Fine Arts Academy, explained that the project aims to connect art with daily life. “We believe that music is a universal language capable of creating exceptional moments even while driving,” he said.

Many residents and visitors have welcomed the idea, describing it as a surprising and enjoyable addition to their usual drive.

Al Hafiti also noted that this is part of the Academy’s mission to promote creativity and beauty across the emirate, especially in the field of arts. Musical Street reflects an effort to integrate artistic expression into the urban landscape in ways that are both accessible and engaging.
