Oman is preparing to host a major international cricket event this October, with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia-Pacific Qualifier scheduled to take place over ten days. According to the ICC, nine teams will take part, competing for three qualification spots at the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, set to be held in India and Sri Lanka.

Teams that secured their places through sub-regional qualifiers in 2024 — Kuwait, Malaysia, UAE, Qatar, Japan, and Samoa — will join Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and hosts Oman. Four of them — Oman, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and the UAE — have previous experience in the T20 World Cup.

The group stage will run from October 8 to 10, dividing the nine teams into three groups:

  • Group 1: UAE, Malaysia, Qatar
  • Group 2: Nepal, Kuwait, Japan
  • Group 3: Oman, Papua New Guinea, Samoa

The top two teams from each group will move forward to the Super Six stage, which will take place from October 12 to 17. At the end of the Super Six, the top three teams will secure their spots at the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

As Oman prepares to host teams from across Asia and the Pacific, the qualifier will serve as a key stepping stone for countries aiming to compete on cricket’s biggest T20 stage in 2026.
