As Ramadan enters its final stretch, many Muslims begin preparing for one of the most meaningful traditions of the holy month: i‘tikaf. This spiritual retreat usually takes place during the last ten nights of Ramadan, when worshippers spend extended time in a mosque focusing on prayer, reflection and reading the Qur’an.
In Qatar, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has shared a reminder of the key rules for i‘tikaf this year. People planning to take part are also encouraged to review the religious principles of i‘tikaf and follow proper mosque etiquette throughout their stay.

The ministry also highlighted the following rules for i‘tikaf in Qatar:
- I‘tikaf will take place only in mosques designated in advance by the Mosques Department
- Participants must be 18 years old or above. Children aged 8-18 may join if accompanied by a guardian
- Worshippers should use designated areas for sleeping and eating inside the mosque
- Loud conversations and disruptive behaviour should be avoided
- Clothes and personal belongings should not be hung on mosque walls, pillars, or facilities
- Participants are expected to keep their space clean and respect mosque property
The ministry also clarified that i‘tikaf in mosques during Ramadan will be open to men only.
