More smart traffic cameras are coming to Bahrain streets, so if you’re behind the wheel regularly, here’s what to know before the next drive.
There are already 258 smart traffic cameras in operation across Bahrain. Some of the locations include:
- Manama: Diplomatic Area intersections
- Seef District: major junctions around Seef Mall
- Riffa: key intersections on main roads
- Muharraq: major intersections and nearby roads
The next phase continues with another 100 smart traffic cameras in September 2026, followed by 100 more in October 2027.

The new system does much more than check speed. High-definition infrared sensors can detect several traffic offences at once, spotting mobile phone use and seatbelt violations through windshields, even after dark.
Here are some violations and how much they can cost:
- Mobile phone use: BHD 50
- No seatbelt: BHD 20
- Red light violation: BHD 500
- Speeding: BHD 20 to BHD 500
Another important update in Bahrain: thin plastic bags will be banned from August 20.
