Cycling enthusiasts and occasional riders alike have plenty to look forward to as Abu Dhabi continues its journey toward becoming a cyclist’s haven. The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) is steadily expanding the city’s network of bicycle and pedestrian pathways, making it easier to explore on two wheels while promoting sustainability and healthier living.

New cycling pathways are being added across key residential and urban areas of Abu Dhabi Island. Construction is already underway along major streets such as:

  • Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Street
  • First Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Street
  • Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street
  • Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Otaiba Street

These new tracks are part of Abu Dhabi’s larger plan to improve urban mobility and encourage active lifestyles for residents and visitors alike. The city’s goal is 1,270 km of cycling infrastructure crisscrossing neighborhoods, connecting communities, and creating opportunities for everything from leisurely rides to fitness-focused routes and family outings.

Safety is a top priority for this project. To ensure the tracks are accessible and secure, DMT is collaborating with Abu Dhabi Police and other stakeholders. Features such as cyclist-friendly designs and protective measures are being integrated to make the pathways safe for everyone, from beginners to experienced riders.

These developments reflect Abu Dhabi’s commitment to sustainability and a healthier future. By investing in extensive cycling infrastructure, the city is not only reducing reliance on cars but also creating spaces for families, friends, and individuals to embrace cycling as a practical, fun, and eco-friendly mode of transport.
