Finding a nearby place to walk, let kids run around, or simply sit outside is becoming easier in Abu Dhabi. The city has opened 16 new parks in Al Shamkhah district, giving residents more easy access to green spaces close to home. This initiative focuses on making outdoor time part of daily routines rather than something saved for weekends or special outings.
This expansion of green spaces reflects a wider shift in how the capital approaches urban planning. In May 2025, Abu Dhabi ranked 9th in a global survey of cities with the best green spaces and access to nature, highlighting long-term investment in liveable neighbourhoods.
Each new park in Al Shamkhah features open lawns, walking tracks, outdoor fitness zones, sports courts, and children’s play areas built to inclusive standards. Shaded seating and shared areas encourage people to slow down, sit outside, and spend time together.

For anyone looking to stay active or simply going out to “touch grass” without leaving the capital, these parks in Al Shamkhah make that idea part of everyday life.
If you enjoy green spaces, you’ll be pleased to know that the UAE capital’s got a bit greener thanks to King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Park. This newly opened park in Al Mushrif features an air-conditioned walkway and more than 1,000 Ghaf trees, making it another strong example of how the city adapts outdoor spaces to local conditions.
With more parks opening across the city, Abu Dhabi continues to build a stronger network of green spaces worth paying attention to. Stay tuned for more updates, new openings, and local outdoor spots to add to your list.
