Abu Dhabi Police are urging all drivers, especially those operating trucks and buses, to stop parking on the side of the road — especially when stopping to pray. While religious observance is important, parking randomly on busy streets is dangerous, disrupts traffic, and raises the risk of accidents, particularly during the evening rush.

The Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate has called on heavy vehicle owners, truck drivers, and business operators to ensure their vehicles are parked in safe, designated areas. Instead of stopping on the roadside, drivers should use proper parking lots, mosques, or prayer houses. This simple change can prevent traffic congestion and keep everyone on the road safer.

What happens if you park illegally? Parking in unauthorized spots isn’t just risky — it’s also expensive. Abu Dhabi’s traffic laws impose strict penalties for improper parking:

  • AED 500 fine for parking at intersections or detours (Article 62 of the Federal Traffic Law).
  • AED 500 fine for ignoring traffic signs and instructions (Article 70 of the Federal Traffic Law).

To prevent accidents and avoid penalties, always plan your stops in advance. If you need to take a break or pray, look for safe, designated areas. Abu Dhabi’s roads are busy, and a little caution can make a big difference in keeping traffic smooth and safe for everyone.
