Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority has announced the inaugural Al Ain Dates Festival. Scheduled from January 3 to 8, 2025, at the historic Al Hili Oasis in Al Ain, this festival offers a rich tapestry of events celebrating the date harvest season.
Central to the festivities are seven date competitions, each spotlighting a distinct variety: Al Ain Elite, Khalas, Fard, Dabbas, Bumaan, Sheeshi, and Zamli. Participants will vie for a share of 70 prizes, collectively exceeding AED 1.7 million.
Beyond the competitions, attendees can immerse themselves in a vibrant date auction, explore date shops, and wander through a traditional market.
The heritage village offers insights into the cultural significance of date cultivation, while exhibitor pavilions showcase innovations in the industry. Families will appreciate the children’s corner and the section dedicated to craftswomen, highlighting traditional crafts. A photo exhibition captures the essence of date farming, and the performance stage will host folk art performances, bringing the rich heritage of the region to life.
The festival underscores the pivotal role of the palm tree in both traditional and modern industries, supporting local products and the broader agricultural sector, with a particular emphasis on date production.
It highlights the significance of dates in economic diversification, their contribution to the national economy, and their role in strengthening the country’s food security system.
