The Ministry of Works in Bahrain has announced upcoming lane closures on two major highways this summer due to ongoing improvement and construction works. The affected roads are Zallaq Highway and Alfatih Highway, and the closures will begin in mid-July.

Starting July 11, Zallaq Highway will undergo a two-month closure affecting two lanes near the Al Raffah area. The works are part of a project to build a new junction. While the exact reopening date has not been confirmed, the Ministry noted that it will be announced closer to the time. Check the map of affected area below.

Traffic will be diverted in both directions, with alternative routes provided between the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club junction and either the Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway or the Zallaq flyover, to keep traffic moving throughout the construction period.

Meanwhile, Alfatih Highway will also see partial closures starting from July 12 through to August 31, 2025. The closures are as follows:

  • Southbound: Closure of the slow lane between Mahooz Avenue and Mina Salman Junction. Two lanes will remain open for traffic
  • Northbound: Closure of the slow lane between Mina Salman Junction and Juffair Avenue

The Ministry, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Traffic, urges all drivers to follow traffic rules and posted signs during this period for everyone’s safety.

As improvement works continue, drivers are advised to stay informed about detours and lane changes to avoid delays during the summer months on these key routes.
