Bahrain’s Sitra Mall is set to host a special cultural treat this May. The popular Japanese tea house Chawan is launching a themed pop-up experience as part of Polytechnic Bahrain’s Marketing Day, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most colourful events of the month.

Running for two days only — May 14 and 15, from 6 PM to 10 PM — the “Chawan in Japan” pop-up is designed to celebrate the essence of Japanese traditions while giving visitors a chance to try a range of seasonal drinks, sweets, and activities. Entry is completely free, making it an easy addition to your evening plans.

At the heart of the pop-up is Chawan’s signature matcha menu, including both their classic drinks and new seasonal flavours such as:

  • Sakuragari mocha
  • Hanami latte
  • Bara latte
  • Chrysanthemum tea
  • Houji natsume

In addition to the food and drink, the event will feature a Tanabata wish tree — a nod to the Japanese tradition where people write down their wishes on colourful tanzaku papers and hang them on bamboo branches.

Guests can also enjoy:

  • Traditional Japanese games
  • Photo stations styled for the perfect keepsake
  • A showcase of vendors including El Camino, Arte de Cafe, Wall Street Coffee, Kaak bsemsom, Petal and Bean, Mkshat, and Chai Talqema

Whether you’re a longtime fan of Japanese culture or just looking to experience something new, Chawan’s pop-up is open to all and promises a lively, matcha-filled way to enjoy the weekend.
