As we await the official opening of the Zayed National Museum (expected to open in 2025), a special exhibit has opened to give visitors a sneak peek into one of the museum’s exhibits.
The exclusive exhibition, “Introducing Zayed National Museum: The Foundations of Unity” is a collaborative effort between the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, and Dubai Culture, offers a glimpse into the upcoming treasures of the Zayed National Museum.
Currently hosted at the Etihad Museum in Dubai, this exhibition is a unique opportunity for curious minds to explore the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Open until December 5, 2024, the showcase captures the essence of unity and pays homage to the visionary leader.
Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, inaugurated the exhibition, emphasizing its national significance. She described it as an invaluable educational resource, providing cultural enlightenment to future generations while preserving the tangible, intangible, and cultural heritage of the UAE.
Highlighting the crucial historical moment of February 18, 1968, when Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum laid the foundation for the United Arab Emirates, Her Highness underscored the exhibition’s role in strengthening Emirati culture.

She expressed that it serves as a bridge between the vibrant past and the evolving present, introducing residents and visitors to the nation’s rich history, and regional connections, and instilling a sense of national identity among the youth.
The immersive experience awaits with a curated collection of artifacts, films, and archival images portraying the life of the Founding Father. Visitors can witness important life events, delve into Sheikh Zayed’s formative years in Al Ain, and explore his profound connections with his people.
Notable moments, such as his partnership with Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed and the historic signing of the UAE constitution in 1971, are vividly captured in photographs.
Part of a series organized by Zayed National Museum, this exhibition is a precursor to a nationwide tour, incorporating distinctive elements from each emirate while narrating the story of national unity.
His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, expressed that the exhibition, honoring leadership, diplomacy, and unity, is a testament to how Zayed National Museum will illuminate the collective history, culture, and stories of the UAE and its people.
Visitors can also see a fascinating model of the Zayed National Museum on Saadiyat Island in the cultural district of Abu Dhabi and engage in workshops and activities inspired by Sheikh Zayed’s passion for nature and falconry.
Panel discussions and dialogues revolving around the founding and development of the UAE will further enrich the cultural experience in Dubai.
