Abu Dhabi is making travel more convenient by extending its driverless taxi service to Zayed International Airport (AUH). This expansion is part of the city’s broader vision for smart, sustainable transport.
Self-driving taxis have been operating in select areas of Abu Dhabi, with successful trials on Yas Island and Saadiyat Island. Now, the service has been extended to include airport transfers, making it easier for passengers to experience autonomous travel.
Abu Dhabi Mobility is working alongside partners like Space 42 and Uber to expand the service across more areas. The focus is not just on increasing the number of autonomous taxis but also on ensuring they comply with all traffic regulations and gain wider public acceptance.
How to Book a Driverless Ride to AUH
Booking a driverless taxi is easy. You can:
- Use the TXAI app, a special platform for autonomous taxis
- Book through Uber, where the option is available
- Follow the same process as a regular ride – enter your location, confirm, and wait for pickup
The introduction of autonomous taxis is a key part of Abu Dhabi’s long-term strategy for smarter urban mobility. Since launching, these vehicles have completed over 30,000 trips, covering more than 430,000 kilometers, all without reported incidents.
By 2040, Abu Dhabi aims to have 25% of all city trips conducted via autonomous vehicles. Other goals include a 15% reduction in carbon emissions and an 18% decrease in road accidents. With driverless taxis now connecting to the airport, both residents and visitors can enjoy a futuristic, safe, and efficient way to travel.
