Louvre Abu Dhabi has added something truly unusual to its experience, offering visitors a rare chance to connect with art through fragrance. The museum’s new guided tour, ‘Art in Scents,’ lets you explore the galleries in a new way, with some artworks sharing a multi-sensory story.

Visitors receive an Art in Scents booklet, and each page of it carries its own scent. The fragrances are linked to ten artworks from the museum’s permanent collection.

You can smell everything from the ancient Egyptian ‘Image of a Queen or a Goddess’ (360–282 BCE) and ‘Still Life in a Pantry’ (1628) by Jérémie Plume (on the image below) to modern ‘Chirisei Kyubiki’ (1960) by Kazuo Shiraga.

There is also the museum’s signature scent, created in collaboration with Givaudan’s perfumers and Magique Studio.

If you have been meaning to visit, now’s a great time.

Also, Louvre Abu Dhabi is marking its anniversary on Friday, November 7, with Night at the Museum: a special evening of after-dark events, activities, and even a guided tour with flashlights.
