Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has introduced a new regulation that will affect businesses across the country. Starting from August 18, 2025, most commercial and industrial establishments will be required to close for 90 minutes during Friday prayers. This closure is mandatory for most commercial and industrial establishments.
The decision, announced in the country’s Official Gazette, was made by Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, the Minister of Commerce and Industry.

The Ministry has stated that the new rule is meant to serve the public interest and support the well-being of society. The regulation encourages alignment with local cultural practices while maintaining access to essential services.
Certain essential services are exempt from the 90-minute closure rule. These include:
- Pharmacies
- Hospitals
- Hotels
- Bakeries
- Fuel stations
- Telecom providers
- Transport services
- Businesses operating 24/7 under a shift system
Additionally, commercial outlets located at airports, seaports, and border crossings do not have to follow the closure requirement.

The Ministry has the authority to expand the list of exempted businesses if needed. Government authorities have been instructed to implement the decision within their areas of jurisdiction.
If you’re following Qatar’s ongoing development projects, you’ll be excited to know that the country is also working on a futuristic education project. By the end of 2025, two 3D-printed public schools will be completed in Doha. This innovative project aims to enhance the education system using sustainable and cutting-edge technologies.
